20th Century Fox’s Logan has confirmed the first villain of the 2017 piece, as well as reportedly cast Wolverine’s replacement.
The film’s Instagram posted a picture of Boyd Holbrook with the name “Pierce” attached – seemingly referring to the one-time Hellfire Club and Reavers leader, Donald Pierce.
And the highly-speculated role of X-23 is reportedly confirmed by The Wrap, which reports that actor/gymnast Sienna Novikov has been cast as the two-clawed mutant genetic offspring of Wolverine in comic books.
The online Hollywood trade goes on to state that the film takes place primarily in 2024, where “mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. Logan’s plot follows a government-type operation called “Transigen” that is turning mutant children into killing machines. Jackman ends up mentoring the girl, who has two claws instead of his three.” Holbrook’s Pierce is reportedly Transigen’s head of security. Richard E. Grant is described as the “mad scientist” behind Transigen, Dr. Zander Rice played by Richard E. Grant – who some speculated was Mr. Sinister. In comic books, Rice is the son of an engineer on the original Weapon X program gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton, and who himself goes on to be the head of the project which creates X-23. Logan is scheduled for release March 3, 2017.
