Starship Troopers, the cult-classic 1997 sci-fi film based on the Robert Heinlein novels, is prepping for a reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Columbia Pictures has reportedly hired the upcoming Baywatch reboot writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon to write the new Starship Troopers script. The new film will not be a remake of director Paul Verhoeven's satirical film version, which spawned a series of direct-to-video sequels, but will instead be a fresh adaptation of Heinlein's novels.

No cast or crew and no projected release date for Starship Troopers have been announced.
